Howdy folks,
It’s been a while…I think it’s been over a month now.1 I’m sure some of you may have some questions. I know this because a fair few have pressed me about it…so I’ll do my best to answer some of them:
How come you haven’t written anything in a while?
I didnt feel like it honestly. It might have been burnout. It might have been our good old friend SAD. It might have been that I suddenly got busy with work…It’s definitely not that one, I’m not that professional. Whatever the factors were, I just didn’t care enough about anything, in terms of subject matter, to send it out to the world. I almost thought about deleting my Substack, such was my apathy. After getting my best rate of views and sign ups, I just didn’t business.2 Shoutout to the folks who have been catching up during my hiatus. I’m glad I left y’all some dope reads to step to, even if it had been a while.
Did you just run out of content/stop going out as much ?
Nope, if anything I have more content on the back burner than I have ever done. The good, the bad and the ugly. Sometimes all at the same place. I just didn’t want to send out something that was half assed. As the great philosopher Ron Swanson said, “Whole ass one thing, never half ass two things”. My ass was missing but I’m hoping this is a start of a return. I had initially wrote an Easter related joke when I first drafted this…it was very good so I’m going to leave it in. Someone quite special made a comeback famously last week, I’m hoping to use it as inspiration.3
When’s the next review coming out?
This obviously won’t be a proper review but I’ll drop some gems about the stuff that I know I’m not going to bother to write about. When will the real reviews be back ? I don’t know honestly, but I will try my best to get back into the rhythm.
Did you have anything good in the last couple of months ?
I did actually, from the fancy to the trashy. It’s been a good time eating wise last couple of months. Let’s get into it
Highlights:
Hudson’s Steakhouse in Bath, the best steakhouse I’ve ever been to. If you haven’t, make sure you go this year. It’s soo good, and I don’t even like steak like that.
Caribbean Croft in Bristol. Shoutout to my friend Dami for this recommendation. Quite simply the best Caribbean food I’ve ever had, at extraordinary value. I will be taking the train down from London to Bristol just to have their food. It’s that good
Chatsworth Bakehouse in Crystal Palace. One of the most famous instagram bakeries I would say. Their focaccia, cakes, cookies and 100 other things are legendarily good, but I’ve been fooled before. The queues are a bit mad/and you have to be on point to preorder your stuff. But you are richly rewarded and then some.
Lowlights:
Fortitude bakehouse in Russell Square. Another instagram bakery; at least 10 people sent me reels relating about it, including non internet people. It’s a phenomenon. When we went it was everything but that. I’ll include the notes I made immediately after visiting there. I was livid after trying their mocha.
Picture a mouse, a very skinny mouse. It finds a large bar of dark chocolate. Starts eating, eating way too fast. Gets the hiccups, uses a tiny straw to drink some water. Burps into the straw and you're on the other end of that straw. That amount of dark chocolate flavour was found in the mocha drink I ordered.
Horribly cramped and not much logic had been applied to where the savoury and drinks menus were situated… All the way on the other side of the store, deep into the queue. As a socially anxious person, I didn't want to push through the people just to see what I wanted. Even with small space, you can do much more that would make sense for customers as well as staff. It dumb. Move your stock behind the counter instead of taking up valuable real estate. I get it's an aesthetic and might be functional too because of lack of space but it's annoying and irritating as a customer to be cramped.
Speaking of Instagram liars…
People sending me Eating with Tod instagram reels. Folks, I hate him. At some point, I’ll do a roundup of the internet frauds and real ones, but he’s top of the fraud list. Literally every place I’ve seen him promote and then been to has been cheeks. Usually, it’s also coincidentally at the same time other influencers are promoting the same place. I smell a paid rat. Influencers doing #ads, I don’t care about really, get your bread. But be upfront about it, don’t paint it as some amazing discovery and IYKYK kinda deal and it’s dead. You’re messing with people’s wallet and stomachs!
Mexican Seoul. This one is tough. Because I really liked some of the food I had there. But don’t claim to be a fusion joint and then half step on the fusion. Putting Korean bulgogi in a taco shell isn’t really fusion in my book. Fusion food is fusion of flavours or wild combinations, not just, I put their protein in a different starch. It felt like a massive missed opportunity. If you’re around Mile End way, maybe try it but having made a trek to get there, it really wasn’t worth it. I was going to post the review saying it was mid but then their shop was robbed so I felt bad. So I don’t mind chucking it here as a quick review haha.
Thanks for rocking with me on my tentative comeback folks, I appreciate each and every view and subscribe. For the new folks who signed up during my accidental hiatus, this is very much away from the norm. Regular programming will be back real soon with a real bang!
It was a month when i first wrote this, it’s now been 3 lol I thought it was funnier to leave it in
For non-Londoners I dont business means I didnt care, wasn’t getting involved with it
Shoutout Curtis Jones, the most underrated midfielder in the Premier League
